Camiguin : All-in-one treat

Let me spell out the place CAMIGUIN for I love to reminisce the time I keep in touch with this wonderful place. I considered this as altogether pleasurable engagement which has a resounding impact in my life. Truly a calm place, has amiable residents, mesmerizing nature’s beauty, inviting seas, waterfalls, and springs, gargantuan-hearted, innovative, yet naïve people it proffers for all who happen to savor its sweetness of the nature’s lavish abundance. The joy of having been engrossed in an island where one can find a truly revitalizing place for people who want to experience the island’s exotic beauty. People of all ages find delight in immersing to an island where God’s bounty flourishes.
The thrill of the trip makes me so excited as if enfolds its panoramic scaffolding which can be viewed afar while riding in a boat while approaching the island. The wondrous scenery of God’s creation captivates my soul as I gazed the verdant mountains and volcanoes which forms part of the island’s topography. Its pear shaped form seems to beckon visitors to always come to Camiguin and savor its freshness of the cool air as it touches ones skin. The name Camiguin can be said in the same way as “Come Again”, whose nature’s wealth enticed visitors and adventurers alike to delve into the mystery why Camiguin is one of the finest places in our country, a perfect treat for all.
The 64 km. circumferential road is just a day travel should one wishes to finish the tour in a day to minimize expenses and save time for some other works. Most of the visitors come with vehicles along them to save and to make them satisfy of the day’s tour for anytime they can go to a certain place where they can find solitude from the cares of a city or away from tedious work. If the guests find the hassle of having their cars brought along them, they can hire vans, jeepneys, multicabs, and motorcycles. One can do island hopping in just few hours because the island is just a pinch or a dot as seen in the map. At that time I just came with my classmates, hiring transportation.
The Benoni Wharf serves as the starting point. From here going to Mambajao, we passed by the seashore where waves splash on the rocky shores, atop we saw the lush trees that abound, the famous of which is the lanzones where Camiguin is known for. It’s the home of the sweetest lanzones fruits in the Philippines. The sweetness the fruits are due to the volcanic soil that the place has, owing to its volcanoes. It has seven volcanoes, Hibok-Hibok is the famous which erupted and killed thousands of people. It left an imprint in the hearts and minds of the survivors which at the present time only few remain for many of them died already due to old age. The mountainous part of the island is suitable to farming and raising cattle.
One of the tourist attractions that the place has is the Katibawasan Falls. The cascading waterfalls from height of 250 ft. It has refreshing ice-cool, clear water best especially during extremely hot weather. The area is surrounded with copious trees and wild flowers where monkeys dangle.
Trekking downward as the sun began to show off its mighty rays, we continued our trip and decided to hop in Sto. Nino swimming pool. The more we become amazed as we dipped into the water which equally cold as Katibawasan falls. It is again located in a hilly place where trees and different plants abound. There we were met by those vendors enticing us to order something to munch on young coconut meat with water and different foods. We were thankful at least our feeling of thirst was quenched because of fresh coconut juice.
After 40 minutes bathing, we visited Bura Soda Water Pool. The water boosts of an acid taste or soda and it’s wide enough to satisfy the swimming condition of bathers.
We proceeded with our journey and stopped for a while at the Church, the remnants of which is a living testimony of the Hibok-Hibok eruption. It proves that such edifice was built on a solid foundation.
The Sunken Cemetery was our next target. We boarded on boats and after few minutes we were mesmerized of the sunken tombs where only some of the crosses emerge while many are submerged. This happened as the motorboat driver recounted due to volcanic eruption.
We stopped over at the Moro-Moro Watchtower which was used during the Japanese occupation. It’s really towering where one can see enemies down.
The most exhilarating part was when we ventured on snorkeling at Kibila Beach Resort located in Guinsiliban. There we saw the different and unique variety of clams, shells and we chorused with this,’oh how wondrous God’s gifts to this place for its teeming fish and corals of all kinds.’ We really enjoyed and made use of our time contemplating on its bounty.
The following day, we continued with our trip to the most famous White Island where we witnessed how crystal clear the water is. As we rode on the motorboat facing towards, it makes one to envision  the horizon as one of God’s mysterious ways in creating the earth and facing backward, we saw the towering volcanoes that made Camiguin known as the Island Born of Fire. We stayed there for almost 1 hour bathing.
We rested for a couple of hours and embarked on the island’s Hibok-Hibok Ardent Spring located at Tagdo, Mambajao, Camiguin. There we found such soothing hot water that made our travel relaxing as it penetrated every nerve of our bodies.
The two-day journey was a magnificent experience for people who desire to unwind from the boredom of work and city cares. I cherished my trip to Camiguin as the best outing spree.
